JAMES BRENNAN is a performer, creative producer/director, writer and composer. Since graduating from Victorian College of the Arts, Acting course in 2000, he has worked in Australia, Brasil, USA, UK, Germany & Poland in theatre, music and contemporary performance. In recent years his work has interrogated the nature of criminality and virtue side by side, drawing on his own auto-ethnographic research, collected and observed in his role as a parole officer and his experimental theatre practice in Europe and Australia. Between 2000 and 2007 he created hybrid theatrical and musical works under the titles GoD BE IN MY MouTH and Theatre Of Disco. In 2007 he gained his Certificate 4 in Corrective Practice and worked as Parole Officer for NSW Corrective Services between 2007 & 2010. In 2009 he received the Kieth and Elisabeth Murdoch Travelling Fellowship, and in the following year joined renowned Polish avant-garde theatre company Gardzienice as core ensemble member. In 2011 James became the first outside director to create a new work for the company in its 35 year history. In 2014 James returned to Australia to pursue a new justice arts work titled The Chat being presented at La Boite and Malthouse 2015/2016. Key directing experience includes: Znak Kaina (Gardzienice/European Centre for Theatre Practices 2011, 2012, 2013); Iphigenia in Aulis; Iphigenia in Tauris; Sibila Oratorium (assistant dir to W Staniewski, Gardzienice, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 Poland, Greece); Grace (Theatreworks Melbourne 2007); The Glass Garden (Sydney Festival 2004; Pipemakers Park, Melbourne 2003; Old Batman St Bakery, 2002); PIGLET (Winner of Best Production of an Original Work, Melbourne Fringe Festival 2000, 2001).
