Apparatus

Paribartana Mohanty

This work is a revisitation and extension of my earlier video work ‘Post Mughal Hunting Scene’. I am exploring camera as a modern apparatus of everyday violence, as an armed hunter itself with its flashing lights exposing ‘reality’. I am also associating the act of clicking and the flashing light with Paparazzi. I have used landscape as a tool, which is sublime and yet does not entertain any penetration or entry points. It makes the audience ‘the subject’. the video disrupts the otherwise leisurely act of art viewing, plays with the optics. The sound alludes the sound of gun men shooting.
