Portraits of people with their eyes partially closed are deemed worthless by conventional editorial parameters. Launching a gold record of artist contributions into space is beyond conventional curatorial parameters, making eyes closed at art openings and after parties a match that could be best explored beyond the heavens. An esoteric original sound composition has been provided by my 10 year old daughter Maxine.
Natalie Thomas is a Melbourne based artist. She has maintained a diverse independent practice focusing on media, issues of authenticity and methodologies of collaboration. She achieved significant national recognition as one of nat&ali (1999-2005). Recent projects include ‘Appropriation, how appropriate is it?, including a series of forgeries of forgeries of Rover Thomas paintings which were exhibited in ‘The Financial Report’ at Artspace, 2013. She won the Darebin Art Prize 2013, and the Bowness Prize for photography, 2008. Her work has been collected by Artbank, the City of Melbourne and Melbourne University, as well as numerous private collectors. Natalie produces an arts blog nattysolo- one woman, one camera, no film. It is an ongoing interruption of ordinary art openings, launches and after parties that also function as publicity for the shows.
