This short fragmented flicker of a piece evokes the flickering, fragmented constellations that float far above us. The infinite and unfathomable that will remain when we have moved on.
Alexandra Spence is an electroacoustic sound artist and improvising clarinetist from Sydney, Australia and currently based in Toronto, Canada. She works within the fields of improvised music, electroacoustic composition and multimedia installation.
Alex is interested in the cross over between improvisation and composition and the development of cross artform collaboration.
Alex has performed in concerts and festivals across Sydney, Australia and in Toronto, Canada, including the 416 Festival, Toronto and Underbelly Arts Festival, Sydney. She has exhibited work in Sydney galleries Gaffa and Archive Space amongst others, was a recipient of Articulate Project Space’s Cross-Arts mentorship and recently had work selected for NAISA’s Deep Wireless 10 online album. When in Sydney she performs with the Splinter Orchestra and the NOWnow Organisation. In 2012 Alex was awarded the Julian & June Russell Prize for Best Performance in Bachelor of Music, UNSW. In 2014 she was offered the Australian ArtStart grant for emerging artists. Alex is a MFA candidate at Simon Fraser University and is currently in the process of relocating to Vancouver.
